Town boss Paul Jewell says he will field his strongest possible team in tonight’s season-opening Capital One Cup first round tie against Bristol Rovers at Portman Road (KO 7.45pm). The Blues manager’s options are somewhat limited by international calls and a couple of injuries, while he admits his squad is three players short.

Blues boss Paul Jewell says the likelihood that Jimmy Bullard would only be a bit-part player at Portman Road this season was what led to the club and the midfielder to decide to terminate his contract by mutual consent. Town’s matchday concourse catering is set to be run in-house this season with the club’s head of conferencing and hospitality Mike Rieder the man in charge of feeding the Blue Army at Portman Road. Previously it was contracted out to Lindley Venue Catering, who provide similar services at a number of clubs and other sporting events across the country.

The 33-year-old midfielder has been on the periphery all pre-season and has been left out of the squad for the last two friendlies against West Ham and Colchester, while reports over the weekend indicated that the Blues were looking to offload the one-time England call-up.

However, the 24-year-old, who the Blues have been chasing all summer, has confirmed that he again won't be involved.
